The GRE was formed in 1993 and purchased lines from the Central Michigan railroad. The GRE line runs east-west through Grand Rapids to Lowell and is 47 miles in length. It interchanges with the Coopersville and Marne railway in Marne, and the CSX and Grand Elk in Grand Rapids. The company was purchased by RailAmerica in 2000 and later acquired by the Genesee & Wyoming in 2012. Most of the railroads traffic comes from grain, lumber and sodium carbonate. [Wiki] This line was the former Grand Trunk Western line from Ashley to Grand Haven.
