The Michigan Southern railroad (MSO) was created in 1989 to operate former New York Central lines in Branch and St. Joseph counties. These lines included White Pigeon east to Sturgis and former GR&I trackage in and near Sturgis. The line continues to operate. [MRL]

1989. Purchases Conrail line between White Pigeon and Sturgis.
2011. August. Recent sightings indicate that the MSO operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with the crew reporting mid to late morning at White Pigeon. They interchange with the Grand Elk at White Pigeon and customers are mainly in White Pigeon and Sturgis. They run east to Sturgis arriving in early afternoon, then switch for about an hour and run back to White Pigeon to tie up. Motive power has been GP9's and a GP16. [MRF-2011-08]
