Location: Jackson, MI Belt Line (MC)

The Jackson Belt Line was a short Michigan Central branch line which went north off the MC main line, east of Elm Street.


Notes

The Belt Line went about 1.3 miles north as far as E. North Street and served multiple industries in Jackson and Blackman Township. The former Belt Line right-of-way is visible along side the Commercial Exchange building on East Michigan Avenue. The Commercial Exchange building is the former Jackson Automobile Company plant.

This belt line may have been the original right-of-way of the Michigan Air Line railway. The MAL originally planned to go from Niles via Jackson to the St. Clair River near Richmond. The west end west from Jackson was leased to the MC  The east end, east of Jackson was leased to the Grand Trunk.
