Location: Republic Junction, MI

Republic Junction was a location on the LS&I Republic Branch, 2.4 miles north of Republic Mine.This was at MP 21.47 (from Ishpeming Yard), and approximately MP 42 aftr 1991. [LSI2] 


Notes

This was formally the interlocked crossing of the C&NW and MILW railroads constructed by US&S. [MCR-1900-1904]


Time Line

1928. The DSS&A Republic branch here is removed. [MRL] The LS&I later uses this grade north of here to Humboldt in the 1950’s  

1933. The C&NW Republic Branch is removed, leaving only the MILW line from Channing and Republic north to Champion. The tower was removed at this location as crossings no longer existed. See Milwaukee Junction page for operations before 1933. [MRL]

1952. The LS&I purchased grades abandoned by the DSS&A (north of here) and the C&NW to Republic Mine load-out (south of here) and built new trackage to serve the Republic Mine. [MRL] This line served the mine until the early 1980's when it was closed.
