Location: Wabik Junction, MI

Wabik was an interlocked crossing of the Milwaukee Road (CMStP) main line to Champion and the C&NW Champion Mine branch, about eight miles north of Republic and one mile south of Champion, in western Marquette County. [OGR] This was an interlocked crossing built by US&S. [MCR-1900 and 1904]

Notes

According to C&NW valuation maps [CNWV], this crossing is the track of the C&NW spur to Champion Mine crossing the MILW main line at grade. The interlocking also included switches for the MILW's own line to Champion Mine which paralleled the C&NW spur.

The interlocking had fixed distant signals. The C&NW Republic branch had a short passing siding north of the crossing.

The tower had an adjacent water closet.

The crossing at Wabik was owned and maintained by C&NW in an agreement dated August 22, 1887. [CNWV]

Wabik was located on the northeast corner of Section 2 of T47N-R29W.

Time Line

1887. The C&NW and CM&StP established a joint track agreement on both lines between Wabik and Champion Mine. [CNWV]

1929. The signal tower and interlocking plant is replaced with signals and pipe connected derail. [CNWV]
