The Clarksburgh Furnace was located in Clarksburg which was a town on the Escanaba River about 10 miles west of Ishpeming. It was first settled in 1862 by the Michigan Iron Company. It was also known as Clarksburg. [MPN]

 


Time Line

1865. Charles Donkersley built a sawmill here. Michigan Iron Co. took over this saw mill and made it one of the largest in the Upper Peninsula. [DSS]

1867. Ore came here from the Washington and Lake Superior mines. [DSS]
