Photo Info: The Lake Superior & Ishpeming railroad was built by two mining companies in the 1890's to serve mines in the Negaunee and Ishpeming areas. The original main line came through the south side of Negaunee (near the South Jackson Mine). Soon, the railroad built a new main line on the north side of Negaunee and it crossed over the DSS&A and the C&NW lines just west of downtown on these substantial bridge abutments, which continue to be extant today (2019). This line was pulled up and the bridge was removed when a third joint line was established just south of US-41 north of here in the 1960’s. [Both, Dale Berry]
