Location: Negaunee, MI - LS&I Facilities

The Lake Superior & Ishpeming came into Negaunee in the late 1890's. It entered the region on the south side of town parallel and south of County Road 288. It went west through the Jackson Mine area, then crossing CR 288 and on to south Ishpeming.

The LS&I later came to the north side of Negaunee on a seperate line to reach the Mass Mine, and later the Negaunee Mine shafts. Around 1905, this line was extended southwest (crossing the DSS&A and C&NW on an overhead crossing 1,900 feet west of Tobin Street) to rejoin the original main line near the west city limits.

Notes

The railroad established a new depot on the new main line near Mill and Bluff streets. It was just east of the South Jackson Mine engine and boiler house, and crusher. [CNWV]
