The F&PM in 1898 had a wye and locomotive watering facility at this location, which was 20.2 miles from Toledo. The station was staffed during the day shift. The passing track at Monroe held 62 cars.

In the mid-1900's, there were two road switcher crews that started from Monroe - a day job at 8:00 am and a night job at 11:59 pm. The night job ran caboose lite to Carleton and switched out the DT&I interchange yard. That yard was cramped and it took several hours to get things sorted out and line up the picks for road trains. At Monroe there were two sets of hand-throw crossovers and the depot was a day time train order office. {DH]
