Station: Carrolton, MI

Carrolton was settled on the west shore of the Saginaw River about 1835 in Saginaw County. [MPN] The town received railroad service from the Michigan Central, Grand Trunk Western and the Pere Marquette. Also known as Carrollton.


Notes

Newspapers report that the interurban line running between Saginaw and Bay City had car shops here.


Time Line

1889. A large force of men is engaged in extending the F&PM branch down the west side of the [Saginaw] river. The track has reached the center of the Village of Carrolton. [DFP-1889-0412]

1891. November. As Clarence Reynolds, a cooper who resides in Carrollton was returning home from Saginaw, and while crossing the CS&M track, he was struck by the engine of a passenger train coming south. He was thrown against a culvert, from which he rebounded to the track in front of the wheels, which passed over his head, crushing it into a shapeless mass. The mangled remains were picked up and taken to his home near by, the shock falling with terrible effect upon his wife and three children. [LDP-1891-1126]
