Location: Detroit, MI - Mack Avenue Crossing,  (GTW/DSR)

Mack Avenue was the grade level crossing of the Detroit Street Railway Mack Avenue line and the Grand Trunk Western main line (Detroit to Grand Haven).

Location: 42o21.267'N / 83o02.430'W.

As of 1935, the DSR owns 100% of the interlocker and tower, by the DGH&M maintains and operates this and bills the DSR for 50% of expenses. Each company maintains its own derails. Crossing gates are 100% of the DGH&M responsivity. [GTW memorandum]


Time Line

1922. January. The Grand Trunk Railway System has placed an order with the General Railway Signal Co. for one 24-lever Saxby & Farmer mechanical interlocking machine and olher materials for installation at Mack Avenue, Detroit, the machine to have 18 working levers and 6 pare spaces. The installation will be made by GT signal forces. [RSG-1922-01]

1923. The MPSC authorizes these railroads to substitute color light signals for semaphores at this crossing. [MPSC-1923]
