Location: River Rouge Yard, River Rouge, MI (MC/NYC)

River Rouge Yard River Rouge Yard was a major Michigan Central yard on their Detroit to Toledo main line in the cities of River Rouge and Ecorse. This yard marshalled cars for industry along the Detroit River in the downriver area using the Marsh Track and other industrial branch lines. The north edge of the yard was at YD tower (Pleasant Street) near the River Rouge drawbridge and the south end of the yard was at approximately Outer Drive.

Notes

The Michigan Central has a passenger station at this location, at Schaefer Road. [MCTC-1950]

The yard continues in use today by the Norfolk Southern.

The yard had the following sections:

  • Classification yard - 912 cars
  • MC Southbound yard - 210 cars
  • NYC Southbound yard - 555 cars
  • Northbound Receiving - 373 cars
  • New Yard - 213 cars

Time Line

2020. January 7. The Conrail drawbridge over the Rouge River was automated today and the tower closed. The U.S. Coast Guard approved the automation of the interlocker and bridge from the CR dispatch center in New Jersey.
