Time Line

1908. The Black Diamond Coal Co., organized in Bay City by local capitalists with $200,000 capital, will begin the work of sinking its shaft next Monday morning. Material for the shaft is on the grounds and the machine shop, wash house and office building are under construction. The company has acquired leases on coal lands which will permit the mine to be operated for 20 years or more, provided no more leases were secured. The vein is of the average thickness abnd the quality of coal is excellent. About 800 tons daily capacity will be provided for in the equipment and the mine, when fully developed, will employee 300 men. [DFP-1908-0330]
