Frankfort Iron WorksThis was a iron ore smelter in South Frankfort. Ore was shipped from Escanaba. The company produced pig iron for markets in Detroit and Buffalo.

Notes

The operation has 22 kilns to provide charcoal for fuel for the furnace. It produced 40 tons of pig iron a day.


Time Line

1870. The furnace began operation on July 4.

1883. The iron works ceased operation.
