  • June 13: Watco Companies, Inc. and the Norfolk Southern Railroad announced the creation of the Michigan Central Railway, LLC, to take over operation of former NS/CR/PC/NYC/MC lines between Ypsilanti and Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Elkhart, and Jackson and Lansing. The plan was subsequently rejected by the Surface Transportation Board.


  • Lake State Railway opens a 2 mile branch line from Gaylord to A&L Iron, a scrap processing plant. [LSRC]

  • Lake State Railway announces plans to relocate their Alpena Shop to the former PM/C&O faciliy at Saginaw Yard on the Saginaw Bay Southern Railway. [LSRC]
