Station: McKeever, MI

McKeever was settled about 1899 by the Copper Range Company, a mining company which worked properties initially south of Houghton. [MPN] McKeever became a junction point on the Milwaukee Road's O&B branch between Ontonagon and Sidnaw. From McKeever, the Copper Range railroad went north to Houghton.

Notes

This was a connection point for MILW passengers going to the Keweenaw Peninsula and the MILW had trackage rights for its passenger trains to Houghton and Calumet. 

Time Line

1899. Copper Range railroad builds through McKeever, from Mass City to Houghton. [MRL]

1933. The railroad had a line-side telephone for crews to use here in the station waiting room. [ETT-COPR-1933]

1943. There was a railroad telephone available for MILW crews in the waiting room of the depot. [ETT-1943]

1973. The Copper Range railroad is abandoned. The line was operated for 74 years. [MRL]
