Station: Milan, MI (Washtenaw County)

Milan was settled in 1830 as Tolanville. A potash factory, drugstore and hotel were located here. The town was renamed Farmersville and then Milan in 1836. It became a village in 1885. [MPN]

The town of Milan is located in both Washtenaw and Monroe counties, with the current city hall and railroad facilities in Monroe County. See Monroe County stations for more information.


Notes

Milan Federal Prison is located northeast of the City. It was built in 1933 and received freight rail service (coal) from the Wabash. [DFP-1933-0129]


Time Line

1900. A fire started in the saw and planing mill of C. H. Wilson and it burned to the ground. The cause was unknown. The loss was insured in the Michigan Manufacturers' Mutual of Saginaw. It is not known whether they will rebuild or not. [DFP-1900-1020]
