Station: Miche, MI

Miche was a hamlet in Fraser Township in Bay County settled about 1870. It was located on the D&M railroad just south of Pinconning.

Notes

Michie may have been named after William Michie, a prominent resident of State Road Crossing, 15 miles north of Bay City. He was found dead on the Mackinaw Division of the MC about 1.5 miles north of his place. Foul play was suspected. Mr. Michie was a Scotchman of 54 or 55 years of age. He had been a resident of Fraser Township since its organization, having been supervisor from 1875-1877 and in 1880. He was Postmaster at Michie and was proprietor of the Pioneer Hotel. He kept a small general store and was regarded as the foremost man in the place. He was supposed to possess considerable wealth and it is surmised that he was murdered for his money. Some eight or nine years ago he was cruelly beaten by roughs and left for deal, and it was generally remarked that no one could kill Michie. [DFP-1882-0315]
