Notes

Time Line

1911. January 10. Relief trains were sent out on the Lake City branch this morning to effect the rescue of Conductors Frank Kitsmiller and Dudley Weserman, who are held fast in the snow drifts between Missaukee Junction and Lake City. Yesterday morning, Kitsmiller, on snow shoes, walked to Cadillac for a bag of supplies. The crews have coal and with the added amount of food they will experience no discomforts. Kitsmiller is fast in the vicinity of what is known as McNitt's crossing. Weseman's train is frozen to the rails at Veneer crossing.

The work train with a crew of over 100 men, is shoveling and picking away the ice and snow, as the snow plows would only be jammed into the ditch with a possible loss of life and a loss of money to the company. [SJEH-1911-0111]

1963. The PRR proposes to discontinue the handling of interstate LCL freight shipments at Missaukee Junction, Falmouth and Lake City. [HES-1963-0617]

1964. May 23. The new Cadillac-Lake City railroad company has obtained ICC permission to purchase its right-of-way from the Pennsylvania railroad. Using a temporary headquarters in Lake City, the new short line railroad plans to start freight service from Missaukee Junction and passenger service. They have 3 steam engines in their rolling stock. They also have four wooden coaches and a business car especially equipped for groups riding the railroad's main line. [HDN-1964-0523]

1964. The C&LS railway inaugural run will leave Missaukee Junction between 10 and 11 o'clock for Cadillac. Special ceremonies will be held at Missaukee Junction before its departure. Three round trips are planned daily Monday through Friday and four trips each on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. New depot buildings will be built in Lake City and at the site of the old Grain Mill at Missaukee Junction on US-131. [LSJ-1964-0524]
